The Ontario Society of Adlerian Psychology invites you the 6th Annual Conference.  This year we want to promote wellness and mental health in such areas as the workplace, schools/university setting, parenting, work-family balance, mindfulness, etc.  Join us to experience Adlerian psychology in action and about making a difference Canada's mental health.

The keynote speaker for Saturday and Sunday is Dr. Richard Watts, a dynamic speaker and one of the foremost Adlerian scholars.  On the Friday evening the Family Education Forum will be presented by Alyson Schafer, one of Canada's most notable parenting expert.

According to the report Making the Case for Investing in Mental Health in Canada (2012) by the Mental Health Commission of Canada:  "More than 6.7 million people in Canada were living with a mental illness in 2011.  This translates to 1 in 5 people in Canada who are living with a mental illness in any given year. Of these, moe than 1 million were children and adolescents between the ages of 9 to 19 years of age.  More than 28% of people aged 20-29 experience a mental illness in a given year.  By the time people reach 40 years of age, 1 in 2 people in Canada will have had or have a mental illness.  About 2.1% of the working population in Canada currently experience mental health problems and illness which can affect their productivity.  Improved management of mental health in the workplace including prevention, early action to combat stress and identify problems could decrease losses to productivity significantly."

What is Wellness?  There are many ways of defining wellness.  It is more than exercise, nutrition and physical health. The interpretations of wellness include one that is "multidimensional and holistic, encompassing lifestyles, mental and spiritual well-being, and the environment. Wellness is an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more successful existence." (National Wellness Institute)

What is Mental Health?  "Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community." (World Health Organization)

The conference is an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues, visit with friends and meet new people.  Invite a friend, family or colleague to join you at this year's conference.  We hope that you will also join us for the Wellness Hour taking place on Saturday, October 15 from 3:00PM to 4:00PM.  The focus will be on promoting wellness in daily life.  We look forward to seeing you in October.
